FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Naples, FL – August 17, 2014  Right before this school year began, K is for Kids introduced its new student leadership council, known as DOSA-Directorate of Student Agenda, at a meeting to kick off the teen’s 2014-2015 “fun’raising”.  A new school year means a new group of teen leaders for K is for Kids.

Students met to welcome new leaders in their roles, prepare for upcoming events and say “good luck” to last year’s leaders who are heading for college and will become advisors to the new council.

Leaders that are now freshmen in college include Mario Chang, a Gulf Coast High graduate now attending University of Florida; Patrick Clawson Jr., a Gulf Coast High graduate at University of Florida; and Nicholas Nolan, a Barron Collier High graduate now at Florida State University.

“It’s an exciting time for us,“ said Nedgie Paul, a 12th grader at Palmetto Ridge High School who is serving her second year with DOSA and is now its senior leader. “We know we have big shoes to fill, but we’re ready.  We’ve added a few new events to help kick off the school year that we know kids of all ages will love – a video game contest that will help children all around the world and a teen illustrator contest for a children’s book that has a scholarship award for the winner.”

In addition to Nedgie, new leaders for this year’s DOSA Board are all seniors and include: Hadrien Royand Tyler Schult, both from Barron Collier High School; Cameryn Anthony, Gulf Coast High School; and Sanrda Lovos, Palmetto Ridge High School.

Both DOSA and a new high school club, Operation: Outreach, are student initiatives launched last year. “We wanted to start the club at our high schools to create a ‘ladder for leaders’ that would give students the chance to climb up to higher levels of leadership,” said student advisor, Patrick Clawson.  “And as the Club’s leaders near graduation, they help guide and give a hand up to the younger students who want to take the lead.”
