Teen Advisory Team Council Helps Gift Wrap Shoppers’ Books at Barnes & Noble during Holiday Book Drive

Adult and teen volunteers provided helping hands for gift wrapping shopper’s books at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Waterside Shops.

Many thanks to our volunteers who came out to help gift wrap shoppers’ books at Barnes & Noble on Thursday, December 2nd.  The bookseller offers the free service during throughout the holidays, and it was wonderful K is for Kids® to give a little something back to the shoppers who have been so generously supporting the Holiday Book Drive the bookseller conducts for our “kids.”  Boxes of books have already been donated to K is for Kids® since the book drive began on November 1st.  This is the third year that Barnes & Noble has benefited our Foundation.

Volunteer Janine Jones began the day’s wrapping.  Mrs. Jones has been a big supporter for our cause since our first fun’raising began at Barnes & Noble in the autumn of 2008; her son, Cory, is going on his third year as a spokesperson for the Teen Advisory Team.  Vickie Colligan and Karen Clawson followed.  Mrs. Colligan’s son, Matthew, was instrumental in creating the Teen Advisory Team’s first Council of Leaders this past summer.  Our newest Advisory Council member, Paola McNally, joined us after work.

Two rounds of teens pitched in after their high school classes ended, adding to our holiday cheer and fun:  Many thanks to Tyler, Radhika, Sydney, Avnee and Brenna.  Surprised to learn Sydney had never wrapped a gift, we enjoyed watching Tyler and Radhika teach her the finer points and it paid off — her first wrap was perfect!  Thanks to the teens personally selecting books and inscribing them for the Holiday Book Drive; children love to read the dedications.

Many nice people stopped by our table and helped the time pass quickly.
