Flashback: Nonprofits Join Together to Move a Mountain of Books for K is for Kids’ Big Book Giveaway!

How does a small teen-based organization move a mountain of books?  With the help of friends! Northside Naples Kiwanis Club and AMI-Ft. Myers rounded up small work forces to help clear the shelves as the Book Warehouse closed its doors, ensuring its 10,000-book donation to K is for Kids could reach Collier & south Lee students.

Standing in front of emptied shelves, Northside Naples Kiwanis Club members Chris LeBlanc and Tim Tuttle (second and third from left) line up with their crew of helpers alongside employees at the Book Warehouse (first and seventh from left) and K is for Kids intern Daniela, at far right.

Moving a mountain of books was a daunting task for K is for Kids’ small teen volunteer based organization, made even more challenging by the fact that the move had to be executed on a Monday morning when Teen Advisory Team members were in their high school classrooms.   Thankfully, Tim Tuttle (third from left above) came to the rescue, recruiting Chris LeBlanc and other Northside Kiwanis Club members.
K is for Kids thanks this special team and AMIKids-Ft. Myers who had to put all other matters aside to create a “small work force” to help pack up and transport the books to a new location — donated just in time by Cypress Self Storage in Naples.

AMIKids-Ft.Myers students and teachers provided 13 extra pairs of much needed hands.

Volunteers arrive to help move the mountain of books inside the air conditioned rooms donated by Cypress Self Storage.: Tim Tuttle and his two sons stand at center with Teen Advisory Team members Danielle Verduchi from Naples High, second from left, and Nicole Casey, from Gulf Coast High, second from right, who each brought friends to help. College student Daniella Alban at far right also pitched in all day.

Many thanks to each of these willing and hard working volunteers shown at right who met us at the warehouse to move the mountain of books into their new home at Cypress Self Storage.

Many thanks to WINK-TV and Lauren Pastrana for covering the story!
