Twenty Teen Artists Advance as Semifinalists in K is for Kids Teen Illustrator Contest, Stage 2 Rules

K is for Kids’ students leaders have selected the 20 teen artists who will advance as semifinalists in the Teen Illustrator Contest, each of whom have the chance to win a $3,000 scholarship!

The young artists are (in alphabetical order by first name):

Kaileen McHugh, Kristina Cortada, Madison Szittai,

Matt Sabin, Melanie Reyes, Nicole Fairbrother,

Roosevertte Toussaint, Selina Wagner, 

Sarah Renfroe, and Stephanie Ali. 

(Note: One semifinalist withdrew.)

STAGE 2 RULES: 

ALL SEMIFINALISTS MUST SUBMIT the UPDATED MEDIA RELEASE FORM email to Karen@kisforkids.org:

Semifinalists must also complete the questionnaire  (information and contact sheet) and email to Karen@kisforkids.org:

The 20 semi-finalists will have two (2) weeks to submit two (2) NEW entries* as 12″ width x 6″ height full color images (so that the judges may see how a fully illustrated spread in the book will look).  Artists must scan their images as 300 dpi jpg, png or pdf files, and email to Karen@kisforkids.org.

A separate page with the stanza(s) that pertains to each image should accompany each image. The deadline for final artwork to be submitted will be by TUE., MAY 19th, 2015 midnight.

*1st ENTRY:

ALL SEMIFINALISTS will exercise their imagination to create new or never before seen creatures (target readers are K-3 grade) in a 12″ width x 6″ height entry of the full (open) spread of pages 6-7 illustrating the stanza here. (Note: Those who may have already begun their art using BOTH stanzas previously posted, your work will be accepted.) 

Fishes and squishes,

and things with no name,

flip high and swish low

in all sorts of games!  

 

*2nd ENTRY: ARTIST’S CHOICE!  Choose ONE STANZA from the book.

The prestigious panel of judges consisting of Ronnie Ann Herman, Jago, and Jason Kurek will choose the five finalists.  Meet the judges below.

FIVE FINALISTS will be announced on SUN., MAY 24th, 2015.

The author will then join the voting and the WINNING ILLUSTRATOR will be announced on May 29th.  The winner and other four finalists are invited to K is for Kids’ Top Leaders Recognition and Awards Reception on SUN., MAY 31ST, 2015 (1:00 P.M., location TBA).
